Week 18

Mommy is starting to feel Baby a bit more regularly at night when we're lying still. All very exciting and surreal! The appetite has definately increased! Mommy feels like all she does is eat. Luckily we still get full pretty quick so just little snacks all day long!

New This Week: From head to rump, Baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the size of a sweet potato) and weighs almost 7 ounces. Baby has become amazingly mobile, passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. Baby is busy flexing it's arms and legs (which we're beginning to feel!) The blood vessels are visible through it's thin skin, and it's ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from the head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around the nerves, a process that will continue for a year after Baby is born. If we're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If we're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now. Hopefully Baby won't be shy on the 10th!!!

We had a relaxing weekend of shopping and a get together with friends. We got to catch up with some friends of ours that we hadn't seen in quite a while, so it was fun to hear what was new with everyone!

Excitement!!

Two nights ago while lying very still Mommy could feel Baby kicking, so she told Daddy where to put a hand on her tummy to feel for himself... and he did!! VERY FAINT, but Daddy said something before Mommy, so he must have felt it!! Very exciting to be able to start feeling our little one in action...

If all goes according to plan and Baby cooperates, we should know what Baby will be on our 3rd wedding anniversary. How cool is that?? Our 20 week appointment falls on that very day, can't ask for a better gift!! Then it's off to the Lake for, no doubt, a lot of Lake apparel shopping for our little boy or girl.

Week 17

Mommy is starting to feel much, much better. Still very tired at times, but we'll take that any day of the week over the morning (all-day) sickness! The tummy is starting to stick out a bit more, so that's kind of fun to see.

New This Week: Baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker. Baby can move it's joints, and the sweat glands are starting to develop. Baby weighs about 5 ounces now, and is around 5 inches long from head to bottom (about the size of an onion)!

We had the opportunity to witness two great weddings this past weekend. A co-worker celebrated their loooong time together and it was great to see them finally tie the knot! And we were honored to see our neighbors join their lives together and meet their wonderful family! Both weddings were so much fun; if only Mommy's tiredness hadn't kicked in so we could have enjoyed the fun for a little longer!
We also made another attempt to the Farmer's Market and this time we were able to enjoy everything the market had to offer! We had our roasted sweet corn, lime-ade, and did some shopping! All in all, it was a great weekend.

Update from Dr's Visit

We had a quad screen done at our 16 week check up. This is done for any chromosomal abnormalities. The Dr's office called us to let us know that our results came back negative and all is normal! So we are happy to share that we have a healthy baby!

Dr's Visit

We had our 16-Week check up today and Dr Marcus is still very impressed with Mommy and keeps praising her on her health and nutrition status! Baby's heart beat jumped around from about 147 to 153, so very good and strong sounding. Baby is also measuring right on schedule, so we were happy to hear that too!
Most exciting is that Dr Marcus confirmed that Mommy HAS been feeling Baby afterall! The little tapping and butterfly feelings are definately Baby, so we were very excited to hear that!
We go back in for the BIG ultrasound in 4 weeks! We can't wait!

Week 16

Things are moving along! We are now at 16 weeks and Mommy is feeling much better, still needs to eat...immediately to keep from feeling nauseous but it seems to be under control.

New This Week: Baby is about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. The legs are much more developed, the head is more erect than it has been, and Baby's eyes have moved closer to the front of it's head. The ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of Baby's scalp has begun, though locks aren't recognizable yet. Baby has even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, Baby's heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as Baby continues to develop.

Well, we had a great time in Houston, Tx these past few days! It was so much fun to see everyone down there. We braved the heat by going to the Houston Zoo, did some shopping (guys played pool), hit all our favorite eating spots, and got to do some relaxing! Abuelo and Grandma Mary sure know how to spoil us (Frida included!). Frida had a good time keeping Tio Cheech occupied with all the fetching. AND we got to meet their new addition of a puppy. A cute little Papillon, named Baby Girl, at 9 weeks old, weighing about 2 pounds! We also got to spend some time in Galveston at the beach with Tio Ramon and Auntie D! And Frida got to "play" with Pietre; after a while the girls seemed to actually get along! We got to eat lots of good food and enjoy the company! We were bummed to have to leave! Thanks for a great time!

Week 15

Week 15 now! I can't seem to tell if the weeks are getting faster or slower. It seems some days that they are just flying by and other days I can't wait for it to be to the next week!

New this week: Baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). Baby is busy moving amniotic fluid through it's nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in the lungs begin to develop. Baby's legs are growing longer than it's arms now, and can move all of it's joints and limbs. Although the eyelids are still fused shut, Baby can sense light. There's not much for Baby to taste at this point (except that strawberries are still a no-no!), but taste buds are forming!

We are getting ready for our trip to Texas this week. We're all anxious to see everyone down there! Frida is excited to get spoiled again by Abuelo, Grandma Mary, and Tio Cheech! Tio Ramon, Antie D, and Pietre will be joining us on Friday, so that should be fun. We're very excited and a little nervous with tropical storm Edouard heading toward the Texas coast. Hopefully things will settle down by the time we are ready to leave. We can't wait!
