Baby is moving all over the place now and the cool part is that not only can Mommy feel Baby move, but you can actually see Baby move my clothes! Crazy!
New This Week: Baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals (about every 2 hours now), opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, Baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with some help — if she were to be born now.
We had our first Baby shower this weekend, hosted by Auntie Chelsea. Everything was just perfect! The decorations were beautiful, the games were fun, and the food was yummy! And even better were the wonderful guests! It was so nice to see everyone and get to spend a little time with you all. Thanks to everyone for a great Baby shower! And thanks again Auntie Chelsea!

Week 26 - Beginning of 3rd Trimester!!!
This week marks the end of the 2nd trimester and the beginning of the 3rd trimester! We can't believe that we are finally here! I can remember way back to June, thinking "I'll never be in my 3rd tri!" We are so excited!
We got to tour the Birth Center last night which kind of made things more "real", seeing all the little babies in there! We have our week 2 of "baby" class tomorrow night, so we are looking forward to that!
New This Week: The network of nerves in Baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. She may now be able to hear both Mommy and Daddy's voices as we chat with each other. She's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of her lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when she's born and takes that first gulp of air. And she's continuing to put on baby fat. She now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches from head to heel.
We had a great weekend, enjoying our beautiful Minnesota Fall. Uncle JonJon was up in the Twin Cities, looking at schools for next year. And we made it to the casino, now that he's 18! We're such big gamblers! Jonathon won $30 at the last machine of the night and we were all so excited at the BIG win!!! Saturday night we had a great dinner with Zac's Uncle Kevin. We talked "Baby stuff", learned all kinds of great things about immunizations and good eats. Still lots to learn and read about! And Sunday we relaxed and enjoyed the neighbor's new deck that Daddy help build.

Week 25
Beginning of the 6th month!!! I don't know where last month went!
New this week: Starting this week, Daddy might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required) just by putting his ear to Mommy's belly! Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up the antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and Baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes. Head to heels, Baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches (about the size of an eggplant) and she weighs a little over a pound and a half. She's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also growing more hair — and if we could see it, we'd now be able to recognize its color and texture.
This weekend went fast...Mommy had to work all weekend, but Daddy got busy with some items on the Nursery List. We have some decorative letters that he made and painted, picked out the color for the top part of the room, put a new coat of paint on the trim, and even found a great light fixture and put it up! Next, we plan to order the furniture and get the top part of the room painted! We'll be sure to post some pictures as we progress!

24 Week Check Up
We had our 24 week check up this morning and things went fairly well. We got to see Baby again, since today was to measure her growth. She is measuring almost perfectly. Her head measured exactly 24 weeks, and the rest of her was a day or two ahead of schedule. Mommy's belly is measuring about a week ahead, so at 25 weeks. Which all of that is fairly consistant since day 1! Mommy also took the glucose screen and that didn't turn out so well. All that means is that we go in next week to take the 3-hour glucose test for gestational diabetes. Dr. Marcus didn't seem too concerned since hemeglobin and blood pressure are perfect or a little low and he especially wasn't concerned since he's been so happy with everything else and how we've been progressing. Mommy has finally started to gain weight (up 3 pounds!) and Dr. Marcus said that was absolutely perfect; "a champ" to be exact!

Week 24
We are at 24 weeks and the end of the 5th month! Baby is as active as ever and we are loving every minute of it! Mommy is feeling so much better these days and of course that helps everything!
New this week: Baby is growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts her at just over a pound, actually it puts her at 1.5 pounds according to our ultrasound this morning! Since she's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), she cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon start to plump up. Her brain is also growing quickly now, and her taste buds are continuing to develop (I think these developed sooner; with her being so picky about strawberries!). Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. Her skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon!
We had a busy weekend, finishing up the registries at Babies R Us and Target, as well as Baby and Child Restoration Hardware! A little overwhelming, but at least they are done! We also got to meet a new addition to the world, baby Aston. He had his debut shower this weekend and it was great to see everyone again!

Week 23
Baby is still kicking and I think she has started to hiccup! I've definately felt what feels more like hiccups rather than kicks or punches. Kinda cute!
New this week: With her sense of movement well developed by now, Baby can feel me dance, guess we'll have to get out our dancing shoes! And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound, we are starting to see her squirm underneath my clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that Baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as dog barking (Frida) or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb...hopefully!
Well, we started our registry this weekend! Took us forever to just do half the store! So much to look at and think about. I think the wedding registry was more fun because we could just think about what we WANTED and now we have to think about what we might NEED! And there are so many different brands, so reading each package to see what the differences were was a little overwhelming! You should have seen us looking at each different bottle company and all the different nipples and sanitizers and warmers and...But, I think Daddy had fun with the registry gun and got a little carried away since we had a couple of things on our registry that neither one of us remember shooting at! We plan to "finish" the registry some time this week!

Anatomy Re-check Update
So we had a very good ultrasound this morning. Baby must have been a little sleepy yet because she wasn't moving around as much; still wiggly but not as bad as last time. She was facing "out" (toward the screen) today so we got so see her little face. Grandma Bena and Ya-ya Liisa were with us for this visit, so I think she knew she had an audience! We also got to see her heart a little better, along with her lips, and limbs. Everything looked perfect! And she even gave the Grandmas a nice little wave. She was a little shy with her girl-parts (again, I think she knew there was a crowd watching!); covering them up with her hand and legs, but we did get a peek and they re-confirmed that she is a girl! Above is a face shot of her little skull. Everything seems to be where it should be!
After our appointment we had a nice lunch and did some shopping. The Grandmas sure know what to shop for! Found some good deals and some fun clothes! It was a great and fun day!
